Dead Air

A fictional shortwave radio powered by SmolLM2-1.7B, running locally through Transformers.js and ONNX Runtime.

This is a silent, uninterrupted recording of the local app, at its original speed. The model was downloaded beforehand. The recorded request took 27.7 seconds, including loading the cached weights into memory.

What happens in the recording

A listener picks the railway station prompt and tunes in. The local model generates a transmission, and the listener saves a text copy with its prompt and model details. The final screen explains the local inference and its limits.

"The next train will arrive soon," my voice echoes through the deserted corridors of the old station. But something's off; there's no other sound besides mine now.

The recording shows fiction generated by a real model. This page is the video walkthrough; the interactive receiver runs locally from the project's source code.
